The past couple of weeks were quite busy for me and truth be told, writing consistently was stuck at the bottom of my to-do list. I love writing from a place of relatability, and forcing myself to do it during that time would have been counterproductive.
As you’re aware by now, I got married a month and a few days ago. It all happened like a dream. Everything happened really fast; from meeting this amazing human, asking her out, meeting each other’s family, and getting hitched, till the finale. It was all I wished for and more.
I get asked, “how do you get married to someone within such a short span of time?" The short answer is that there is no manual to this.
For us, we both had a great connection almost immediately. We had lots of conversations about our ideals and started off with clear expectations. At first, she was hesitant about getting married so fast, but it was undeniable she was willing to take the leap of faith.
But then we asked ourselves what would postponing the wedding till Q3/Q4 add as an advantage to the wedding celebration or the new life? Both of us could not find a satisfactory answer. To make things even better, our parents had no objections to our decision and how we wanted the wedding to be.
Once we decided on the wedding, we took the first major task head-on; budgeting. We both knew we could not afford to incur debt or spend ridiculously, so, we drew our budget; starting with the guests. Knowing I have such a large circle of friends and family, it was quite a tasking decision on my end. Eventually, we decided to keep the announcement private and have the wedding in midweek rather than a weekend.
Alhamdullilah that we were able to benefit from one of the beauties of Islam which allows no extravagance and encourages simplicity. Alhamdullilah too for our family, who made all the difference by supporting us and allowing us to operate within our capacity without incurring even the littlest debt. The issue of debt and its implication for our financial stability as a couple has always been a nagging worry for me when it comes to Nikkah, and by God’s Grace, it was completely avoided.
It’s one month in and writing about it has floated to the top of my to-do list. Thank you for reading and for supporting always. This blessing I have that brings so much joy to me, I wish on you and yours.
Masha'Allah...Congratulations Ridwan! Barakallahu fih
