Following the response generated by my last piece, I thought to write this week's piece on creating memorable experiences. It is quite easy to discount how much we are growing age-wise. Sometimes, our reminiscence of the previous years tends to highlight things we took for granted, such as, a regular friendly commute and other random things we do but we are now missing.
So last week, I felt like hosting a group of friends. I didn’t debate it much with myself or shy away from it because of one obvious thing - it will help create memories. While our societies (every space is commercialized) are not designed to provide friendly social engagement, it becomes our responsibility to seek escape from individuality because we need people and what do we do with our public holidays? We sleep.
I step out of my house to buy things within the neighbourhood and for Jumah once a week or to take an evening walk. This is becoming a norm to almost everyone with remote work culture (I love it here please). While others toil the traffic daily and get stressed out by night time, the weekend is only for rest. But, because there is no promise of when all this will end, it is important that we strive to have a life beyond going to work and paying bills. We do not want people to only show up around us when we are in need of their help.
Creating memorable experiences is something we should embolden as a way of life beyond tagline. This is not to be mistaken with people-pleasing rather as an empathetic act. So as we wind down the year in this Q4, plan for activities that nurture your relationships and your inner self. Another thing I have come to appreciate so far is the act of writing and how it reveals our journey and growth.
In the same way, we will cringe at some Facebook or Twitter posts of years ago, moments of pain and sadness are transient. Documenting some of our challenges give us a better clue of our growth and aid retrospection. Trust me, we will all forget some of our today’s deepest worries in a few months or a few years' time. To aid us in gratitude, writing or journaling reveals the passing of time and how much progress we may have made.
Thank you all for the feedback last week. If you enjoy this piece kindly share it with your friends as well.
